The person that undergoes a gastric bypass feels fuller quicker; this allows the person to reduce their daily food intake and therefore the person can lose weight more easily. The bypassing of the intestine also allows that fewer calories are absorbed by the body therefore reducing the person's daily calorie intake.
Gastric Bypass Procedure In the case of a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass the stomach is made smaller by creating a small pouch at the top of the stomach. This pouch will be used as a "new" reduced stomach. The pouch is made by the use of surgical stables or a plastic band. The "new" stomach is then connected to the middle part of the small intestine. By doing this, the rest of the stomach and upper portion of the small intestine are bypassed. Ways to make a gastric bypass Open procedure:a large incision is made in the abdomen. Laparoscopic procedure: a small incision is made and a camera is inserted as a guide in the gastric bypass surgery. This is an approach preferred due to its less invasive approach; reduced recovery time and fewer post surgery complications. Gastric Bypass Benefits The goal of a gastric bypass is to change the patient's digestive system in order to limit the amount of food eaten. The person that has gotten a gastric bypass surgery as results will consume fewer calories per day allowing them to lose weight and reducing the problems associated with their weight. Gastric Bypass Candidate A good gastric bypass candidate is a person who is overly or morbidly obese and has not been able to lose weight and keep it off with other means such as diet, exercise and medications. Candidates for gastric bypass also present associated conditions to their weight that represent great risks to their health or impair their wellbeing. http://www.gastricbypassguide.com |
